PART 2: THE MAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING WHEN THE TRUTH WAS REVEALED

Alexander Cole stayed outside the ICU for three days.

Three days.

The same amount of time I spent unconscious, fighting between life and death.

But unlike me, he was not fighting to survive.

He was fighting against the truth.

Every doctor.

Every nurse.

Every person who had seen what happened knew exactly who he was.

The husband who almost killed his own wife.

The father who destroyed the lives of his unborn children.

The man who believed the tears of another woman before the woman who carried his blood.

But Alexander refused to accept it.

“No.”

He kept repeating.

“It was an accident.”

The doctor looked at him with cold disappointment.

“An accident is when someone makes a mistake.”

He paused.

“What you did was a choice.”

Those words followed him everywhere.

Because for the first time in his life, Alexander Cole had no power.

Money couldn’t erase it.

His family name couldn’t protect him.

And Isabel Hart…

The woman he had destroyed everything for…

was already disappearing.

When the police began investigating, Isabel changed her story.

Of course she did.

People like her always protected themselves first.

“I never asked Alexander to hurt her.”

She cried in front of the investigators.

“I only went there because I was afraid.”

Afraid.

That word almost made me laugh when my lawyer told me.

Because Isabel had entered my house with a plan.

The mark on her arm wasn’t from me.

The messages recovered from her phone proved everything.

She had sent Alexander dozens of messages before arriving.

“She hates me.”

“She will never accept that you still love me.”

“She wants to destroy us.”

Every message planted another seed of anger.

Every word pushed him closer to believing a lie.

But there was one message that changed everything.

A message sent thirty minutes before she arrived.

“Tonight, you will finally choose me.”

Alexander had not been manipulated by love.

He had been manipulated by his own weakness.

And I had paid the price.

Two weeks later, I left the hospital.

I was thinner.

Paler.

Different.

The woman who entered that hospital was a wife who still hoped to be loved.

The woman who walked out was someone else.

My lawyer, Daniel, was waiting outside.

“Elena, the charges are moving forward.”

I nodded.

“And Alexander?”

“He is trying to contact you.”

I looked through the hospital window.

“I don’t want to see him.”

Daniel hesitated.

“He says he needs to apologize.”

I smiled faintly.

“An apology is for breaking a cup.”

My hand touched my stomach.

“He broke something that can never be repaired.”

That night, Alexander finally managed to send me a letter.

I almost threw it away.

Almost.

But I opened it.

“Elena, I don’t know how to live with what I did.”

“I remember everything.”

“Your face.”

“The way you looked at me.”

“The way you were still trying to understand why I was hurting you.”

“I don’t deserve forgiveness.”

For the first time, he wrote something honest.

But honesty after destruction changes nothing.

At the bottom of the letter was one sentence:

“I lost my children because I didn’t believe the woman who loved me.”

I closed my eyes.

No.

He didn’t lose them.

He killed the future they could have had.

A month later, the trial began.

The courtroom was filled with reporters.

Everyone wanted to see the famous Alexander Cole fall.

But I wasn’t there for revenge.

I was there for justice.

When Alexander entered, he looked nothing like the man who had walked into my hospital room with roses.

He looked broken.

Old.

Empty.

His eyes found mine.

And for a second, I saw the man I once loved.

Then I remembered the knife.

The blood.

The silence.

And the two lives that never had the chance to begin.

The judge asked me to speak.

I stood.

The entire room became quiet.

“I spent three years trying to become the perfect wife.”

“My mistake was believing that if I loved someone enough, they would never hurt me.”

I looked at Alexander.

“But love cannot protect you from someone who chooses to destroy you.”

His head lowered.

“I don’t want Alexander Cole to suffer because I hate him.”

“I want him to face the consequences because two children never got the chance to see the world.”

Silence.

Then I placed a small envelope on the table.

The final evidence.

Daniel had found it during the investigation.

Inside were Isabel’s hidden messages.

And one final recording.

A recording that made Alexander’s face turn completely white.

Because in it, Isabel said:

“Once Elena disappears, you will finally be free.”

The courtroom exploded.

Alexander turned toward her.

“Isabel…”

But she was already crying.

Already trying to explain.

Already trying to save herself.

The same way she always had.

And at that moment, Alexander understood something too late.

He hadn’t destroyed his marriage for the woman he loved.

He had destroyed it for someone who never loved him.

Months later, Alexander lost everything.

His company.

His reputation.

His freedom.

But the thing that haunted him most was not the sentence from the court.

It was a photograph I sent him once.

A simple ultrasound image.

The only memory of the children we would never hold.

On the back, I wrote:

“They existed.”

“Even if you never gave them a chance.”

Years later, I rebuilt my life.

I opened my own company.

I traveled.

I laughed again.

And every night, before sleeping, I remembered my babies.

Not with pain.

With love.

Because they were not the reason I was broken.

They were the reason I survived.

And Alexander Cole finally learned the cruelest lesson of all:

Sometimes losing someone is not the punishment.

Sometimes the punishment is living every day knowing you were the reason they were gone.
