PART 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE PREGNANCY

The entire room fell silent.

Lena stood at the entrance, one hand protecting her stomach.

But she was no longer the confident woman who had sent that message.

She looked scared.

Not of me.

Of what she was about to reveal.

Marcus took a step forward.

“Lena, don’t say anything.”

That reaction was enough.

Because for the first time that night, everyone understood.

There was something even bigger than the affair.

My mother-in-law looked at her son.

“What is she talking about?”

Marcus opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

I smiled.

Interesting.

For years, he had always been good at explaining.

A forgotten anniversary.

A late night at work.

A woman’s perfume on his shirt.

He always had an answer.

But now?

Nothing.

Lena slowly walked into the living room.

“I didn’t want to come here.”

Her voice was shaking.

“But I can’t keep hiding this anymore.”

Marcus’s face turned pale.

“Lena.”

She looked at him.

“How long were you planning to keep lying?”

My father-in-law picked up the phone again.

The messages.

The photos.

The conversations.

Everything was there.

His hands trembled.

“Marcus.”

His voice was quiet.

“Is this child yours?”

Nobody moved.

Then Marcus finally answered.

“Yes.”

My mother-in-law covered her mouth.

A sound of disbelief escaped her.

The same woman who had spent years reminding me that I couldn’t give her a grandson.

Now she had one.

Just not from me.

But before she could celebrate, Lena spoke again.

“That’s not the only thing.”

Marcus immediately turned toward her.

“Stop.”

But Lena continued.

“Your son told me that after the divorce, we would move away.”

The word “divorce” made my mother-in-law look at me.

“You knew?”

I nodded.

“I knew everything.”

She looked confused.

“Then why didn’t you leave earlier?”

I looked around the room.

At the house.

At the people who had watched me slowly disappear.

“Because I wanted to know if Marcus had any regret.”

A bitter smile appeared on my face.

“Now I have my answer.”

Marcus stepped closer.

“Sophie, please.”

I looked at him.

“Please what?”

“Give me a chance to explain.”

I laughed softly.

“You had five years to explain.”

“Five years of marriage.”

“Five years of calling me your wife.”

“Five years of letting your family blame me for something you already solved with another woman.”

His expression changed.

Because he knew.

Every word was true.

Then Lena said quietly:

“Marcus didn’t just hide the pregnancy.”

Everyone looked at her.

“He also hid why he needed me.”

Marcus’s eyes widened.

“Lena.”

But it was too late.

She took a document from her bag.

“I found this in his office.”

She handed it to my father-in-law.

He read it.

Then his face changed completely.

“What is this?”

I walked closer.

My father-in-law handed me the paper.

It was a company agreement.

A transfer document.

Marcus had been planning to move company shares.

Not to Lena.

To a third party.

I frowned.

“Why?”

Marcus remained silent.

Then my father-in-law asked:

“How long have you been doing this?”

Still no answer.

I looked at Marcus.

Suddenly, the affair felt smaller.

The pregnancy felt smaller.

Because I realized the betrayal was much deeper.

He wasn’t only replacing me.

He was preparing to erase everything.

My mother-in-law looked at her son.

“Is this why you wanted Sophie gone?”

Marcus finally exploded.

“Enough!”

Everyone froze.

His calm mask disappeared.

“You don’t understand anything!”

I looked at him.

“Then explain.”

He laughed bitterly.

“Do you really think this marriage was happy?”

The words hurt.

Not because they surprised me.

Because they confirmed what I already knew.

“I spent years feeling trapped.”

He pointed toward me.

“You were always perfect. Always responsible. Always doing everything right.”

“Do you know how exhausting that was?”

I stared at him.

So this was his reason.

My loyalty.

My patience.

My love.

They became things he hated.

Then he said the sentence he would regret forever.

“Lena made me feel alive.”

The room became silent.

I nodded slowly.

“Good.”

Everyone looked at me.

I smiled.

“Then you should be grateful.”

Marcus frowned.

“What?”

“You finally found the person who makes you happy.”

I took off my wedding ring.

Placed it on the table.

“And I finally found the reason I should stop wasting my life.”

His expression changed.

Because he expected anger.

He expected tears.

He expected me to fight for him.

But I didn’t.

I turned toward the door.

“Sophie.”

I stopped.

Marcus’s voice was different now.

Not arrogant.

Not confident.

Afraid.

“Where are you going?”

I looked back.

“Somewhere I should have gone a long time ago.”

I opened the door.

But before leaving, I heard Lena whisper:

“Marcus…”

He turned toward her.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes.

“I didn’t come here only to tell them about the baby.”

A strange feeling crossed my chest.

Because from her expression…

This was not good news.

She continued:

“I came because I found out who the father really is.”

The entire room froze.

Marcus’s face lost all color.

And for the first time that night…

He was the only person who looked terrified.
