PART 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE RED BRACELET

I didn’t sleep that night.

Not because I was angry.

Not because I wanted to confront Adrián.

But because for the first time in four years, I realized something terrifying.

I no longer knew the man sleeping beside me.

The man I loved.

The man I trusted.

The man I was supposed to marry in three months.

I had spent days trying to convince myself that the photograph was meaningless.

That the fight was a misunderstanding.

That Marta was just an employee.

That Adrián was still the same person who used to hold my hand when we crossed the street.

But the file number on my phone changed everything.

47-B.

I waited until he fell asleep.

Then I took my laptop and went into the guest room.

I searched every database I had access to.

Nothing.

No records.

No public information.

Only one thing appeared.

A restricted company archive.

Marta Salvatierra.

Employee record.

Six years ago.

Position: Administrative assistant.

But below that…

There was another name.

Álex Salvatierra.

Brother.

Former fiancé.

I froze.

Brother?

Not fiancé?

I opened the police report again.

The man Adrián fought with.

Álex Salvatierra.

The same name engraved on the bracelet.

The same man everyone thought was Marta’s fiancé.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The next morning, Adrián acted like nothing happened.

He made coffee.

He kissed my forehead.

He asked about wedding arrangements.

“The photographer sent new samples.”

I looked at him.

“Great.”

He smiled.

“You don’t seem excited.”

I lowered my eyes.

“I’m just tired.”

A lie.

My first lie to him.

And strangely…

it felt easier than I expected.

After breakfast, I went to the address connected to file 47-B.

It was an old office building on the outskirts of the city.

Nothing special.

No signs.

No security.

I almost left.

Until I saw the name on the mailbox.

Salvatierra Investigation Services.

My heart tightened.

Investigation.

Not a company.

Not an accident.

Not a coincidence.

Someone had been investigating something.

I knocked.

After several seconds, an elderly man opened the door.

“Can I help you?”

I showed him the bracelet.

The moment he saw it, his expression changed.

“Where did you get this?”

“From Adrián Blackwood.”

The man became silent.

Then he stepped aside.

“Come in.”

Inside were hundreds of files.

Photos.

Documents.

Reports.

My hands became cold.

“Who are you?”

He looked at me.

“My name is Daniel Salvatierra.”

“Marta’s father.”

I froze.

“Then Álex…”

“My son.”

He sighed.

“Six years ago, Álex died.”

The room went quiet.

I couldn’t speak.

“But the police report said…”

“That he attacked Adrián.”

Daniel interrupted.

“That was the official story.”

I stared at him.

“What actually happened?”

He walked toward a cabinet and removed a folder.

Inside was a photograph.

A younger Adrián.

A younger Marta.

And Álex.

All together.

“This is where everything started.”

Daniel placed the photo on the table.

“Álex discovered that someone inside the Blackwood company was using false accounts.”

“Someone powerful.”

“Someone protected by the family.”

My breathing slowed.

“And Adrián?”

Daniel looked at me.

“Adrián knew.”

The words hit me.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“He tried to stop Álex from exposing it.”

My fingers tightened.

“Are you saying Adrián caused his death?”

Daniel didn’t answer immediately.

That silence was enough.

“No.”

He finally said.

“But he was there.”

I felt my stomach turn.

“Why did Marta work for him?”

“Because she wanted proof.”

“She spent six years getting close to him.”

I looked at the bracelet.

“The bracelet…”

Daniel nodded.

“Álex gave it to Adrián before he died.”

I looked confused.

“Why?”

“Because Adrián promised him he would protect Marta.”

My heart sank.

Everything suddenly looked different.

The photograph.

The fight.

The bracelet.

Marta crying outside the police station.

Maybe I had been looking at the wrong story.

Maybe Marta wasn’t trying to steal my fiancé.

Maybe she was trying to expose him.

But then why did Adrián hide everything from me?

That was the question that hurt the most.

When I returned home, Adrián was waiting.

“You were gone for hours.”

I put my bag down.

“I had things to do.”

He looked at me carefully.

Something in his expression changed.

“Claudia.”

“Yes?”

“Are you investigating me?”

The question was so direct that my heart stopped.

But I smiled.

“No.”

A pause.

“Why would I do that?”

He stared at me.

For the first time, I saw fear in his eyes.

Not anger.

Fear.

Because he knew.

Something had changed.

That night, after he went to sleep, I opened his office drawer.

The drawer he never allowed me to touch.

Inside was only one thing.

A small envelope.

My name was written on it.

Claudia Morales.

My hands shook as I opened it.

Inside was a photograph.

Not of Adrián and Marta.

Not of a betrayal.

Something else.

A picture of Adrián standing beside Álex Salvatierra six years ago.

And on the back, a handwritten sentence:

“If anything happens to me, don’t trust the man who says he saved me.”

I turned the photo over.

And my blood ran cold.

Because underneath that sentence was a signature.

Álex Salvatierra.

And a date.

The day before he died.
