Marcus stayed silent for several seconds.
Julian.
That name kept repeating in his head.
The man who came to his house when he was away.
The man who knew about Hannah’s beach house.
The house that Marcus had never mentioned to Sarah.
Not once.
He looked at Lily.
“Sweetheart, how do you know about the beach house?”
Lily lowered her head.
“Sarah and Julian talked about it at night.”
“Did they say anything else?”
The little girl hesitated.
Then whispered:
“They said when Daddy was gone, everything would belong to them.”
Marcus felt his entire body go cold.
But he didn’t let Lily see his anger.
He hugged her.
“Thank you for telling Daddy.”
“But you have to promise me something.”
“What?”
“Don’t tell Sarah that you told me.”
Lily’s eyes widened.
“Will she be angry?”
Marcus forced a smile.
“No.”
“Because Daddy is here now.”
But inside, something had changed.
Fifteen minutes ago, he was leaving for a business trip.
Now he was pretending to leave.
He kissed Lily’s forehead.
Then he walked into the kitchen.
Sarah was standing there with the same glass of juice in her hand.
She smiled.
“Leaving already?”
Marcus looked at the glass.
Then at her.
“Yes.”
Her smile became softer.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Lily.”
Those words would have comforted him yesterday.
Today, they sounded like a threat.
Marcus picked up his suitcase.
At the door, he turned around.
“I’ll call tonight.”
Sarah nodded.
“Of course.”
He walked outside.
The car drove away from the house.
But it never went to the airport.
Ten minutes later, Marcus called his security director.
“I need the backup footage from the house cameras.”
There was silence.
“Sir, the cameras were turned off in the main areas.”
Marcus frowned.
“By who?”
“Someone used the administrator password.”
His fingers tightened around the phone.
“Send me everything.”
A few minutes later, the files arrived.
The original recordings.
The backup copies.
Hidden in a separate server that Sarah didn’t know existed.
Marcus opened the first video.
The kitchen.
Sarah preparing Lily’s juice.
Nothing unusual.
Then she looked toward the hallway.
She checked if anyone was watching.
And she took something from her pocket.
A small bottle.
Marcus froze.
She added drops into the drink.
Then she took out her phone.
She didn’t look worried.
She looked excited.
The next video was worse.
Sarah was sitting with Julian in the living room.
Lily was crying nearby.
Julian laughed.
“She’s perfect.”
Sarah smiled.
“Marcus will believe anything if I show him enough videos.”
Marcus felt his stomach tighten.
Then Julian asked:
“And the beach house?”
Sarah crossed her arms.
“After the custody agreement is approved, Marcus won’t have any reason to fight.”
Custody agreement.
Marcus paused the video.
Because now everything made sense.
The videos.
The accusations.
The strange comments about Lily’s behavior.
Sarah wasn’t documenting a problem.
She was creating one.
She wanted evidence that Lily was unstable.

She wanted Marcus to believe he was an incapable father.
And she wanted custody.
But there was something else.
Something that made Marcus keep watching.
Julian leaned forward.
“What about the other property?”
Sarah smiled.
“The one Marcus inherited from Hannah?”
“Yes.”
“That will come after the child arrangement.”
Marcus stopped breathing.
Because that property was not just a house.
It was Hannah’s last gift to Lily.
A trust created for his daughter.
A future Sarah could never touch.
Unless…
Unless she became Lily’s legal guardian.
Marcus closed the laptop.
His hands were shaking.
Not from anger.
From realizing how close he had come to losing his daughter.
He immediately called his lawyer.
“I need an emergency custody review.”
“What’s happening?”
“I have proof my wife has been drugging my daughter and manipulating evidence against her.”
There was silence.
Then:
“Marcus, send everything.”
He looked back toward the house.
Toward the place where his daughter had been afraid to speak.
Then his phone received a new message.
From Sarah.
“Everything okay? Did you miss your flight?”
Marcus stared at the screen.
For the first time, he smiled.
A cold smile.
Because Sarah still believed he was gone.
He replied:
“Yes. The flight was delayed.”
A few seconds later, she answered:
“Good. Take your time. Lily and I will be fine.”
Marcus looked at those words.
Then he opened the final backup file.
A recording from the previous night.
A recording Sarah never knew existed.
And what he heard made him immediately stand up.
Because the person Sarah and Julian planned to remove from their lives…
Wasn’t only Lily.
It was Marcus himself.
