PART 2: THE SON WHO EXPOSED HIS FATHER’S HIDDEN EMPIRE

The room that had once been filled with birthday music became completely silent.

No one moved.

No one dared to speak.

Everyone was staring at the giant screen where Richard Lancaster’s secrets were being revealed one by one.

Richard’s face had lost all its arrogance.

For the first time that night, he looked afraid.

“Turn that off.”

His voice was low at first.

Then louder.

“Daniel, turn that off right now!”

But my son didn’t move.

He stood on the stage, holding the microphone with both hands, looking at the man who had once been his hero.

A ten-year-old child had just destroyed the perfect image Richard had spent decades building.

Richard rushed forward, but before he could reach Daniel, several members of the Lancaster family council stood up.

My father-in-law’s younger brother, Thomas Lancaster, stepped in front of him.

“Don’t touch the boy.”

Richard stopped.

The words were simple.

But the authority behind them made the entire room freeze.

Because everyone knew Thomas wasn’t protecting Daniel because he was a child.

He was protecting the evidence.

Richard clenched his fists.

“You don’t understand anything. This is a misunderstanding.”

A few guests looked uncertain.

A few still wanted to believe him.

After all, Richard Lancaster was the eldest son of the family.

The future leader of the company.

The man everyone respected.

But then Daniel pressed another button.

The screen changed.

This time, it showed documents.

Bank transfers.

Private accounts.

Signatures.

Dates.

My heart tightened.

I knew about Richard’s betrayal.

But I didn’t know the full extent of it.

For three years, while pretending to be the perfect husband and father, Richard had been preparing to remove me from his life.

Not just emotionally.

Financially.

Legally.

He had created a plan to transfer control of several company assets into accounts that only he and Vanessa could access.

The divorce was not about love.

It was about control.

He wanted me gone before anyone discovered what he had done.

Daniel looked at the crowd.

“My father thought my mother would leave quietly.”

His voice became softer.

“But he forgot something.”

Everyone watched him.

“He forgot that my mom taught me to never ignore the truth just because someone powerful tells you to.”

My eyes burned.

I had never imagined my son would be standing there defending me.

I had spent ten years protecting him from family conflicts.

I had hidden arguments.

Hidden tears.

Hidden every moment when Richard made me feel like I was never enough.

I wanted my son to have a happy childhood.

I never wanted him to carry my pain.

But somehow, he had seen everything.

Richard turned toward me.

And for a second, I saw something I had never seen before.

Panic.

“Claire.”

His voice changed.

The coldness disappeared.

“Tell them this isn’t what it looks like.”

I almost laughed.

After humiliating me in front of everyone.

After bringing Vanessa and Oliver here.

After asking me to leave with nothing.

Now he wanted me to save him.

I looked at him calmly.

“No, Richard.”

The entire room became quiet again.

“You spent ten years making decisions without me.”

I stepped closer.

“Tonight, you can finally face the consequences without me.”

Vanessa suddenly spoke.

“Claire, you are making a mistake.”

Everyone turned toward her.

She no longer looked shy.

The mask had disappeared.

“You think you won because you exposed Richard?”

She smiled slightly.

“But you don’t know everything.”

A cold feeling spread through my chest.

Richard immediately looked at her.

“Vanessa, stop.”

But she ignored him.

She walked closer to the screen and stared at the documents.

“You really thought Richard was the only one hiding things?”

The room became tense.

Even Eleanor, who had been silently holding Oliver’s hand, looked up.

Vanessa continued.

“The truth is, Richard didn’t bring me here tonight only to ask for a divorce.”

She looked directly at me.

“He needed me here because he believed you would never discover what happened ten years ago.”

My breathing stopped.

Ten years ago.

The same year Daniel was born.

The same year my entire life changed.

I looked at Richard.

His expression told me everything.

He wasn’t angry at Vanessa.

He was terrified of what she was about to reveal.

Then Eleanor suddenly stood up.

Her face was pale.

“Enough.”

Her voice trembled.

“Vanessa… don’t say another word.”

But it was too late.

Because Daniel’s final file appeared on the screen.

Not about Richard.

Not about money.

Not about the company.

It was a document with my name on it.

And beneath my name was a date from ten years ago.

The night my son was born.

I stared at the screen, unable to understand what I was seeing.

Then Daniel looked at me.

“Mom…”

His voice finally broke.

“There is something you need to know.”

And when the next page appeared, I realized the betrayal I had discovered tonight was only the beginning.
