PART 2: THE WATCH THAT EXPOSED MY HUSBAND’S SECRET.

Ten years of marriage flashed through my mind in an instant.

The late-night client dinners.

The sudden business trips.

The weekends when Alexander claimed he was too exhausted to spend time with me.

Every forgotten anniversary.

Every unanswered call.

I had always believed those things were because of his ambition.

Because building Montalvo Global required sacrifices.

Because powerful people lived different lives.

But standing there, looking at the watch I had personally chosen for his mother, I felt something inside me become painfully clear.

Alexander wasn’t too busy.

He was just busy with someone else.

I looked back at Camila.

“Your mother-in-law’s birthday gift?”

She smiled.

“My what?”

I kept my expression calm.

“The watch.”

Her fingers slowly touched the ceramic surface.

“Oh, this?”

She lifted her wrist proudly.

“Alexander surprised me with it last week.”

Last week.

The exact week when Alexander told me he was traveling to Chicago for an important negotiation.

The same week he barely answered my messages.

The same week he told me he was too busy to discuss his mother’s birthday.

I almost laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because the truth was becoming too ridiculous.

Camila leaned closer.

“You know, Mr. Montalvo has excellent taste.”

I looked at her.

“He does.”

She misunderstood my tone.

“I guess some people just don’t appreciate what they have.”

The words were clearly meant for me.

But she didn’t know who she was speaking to.

She didn’t know that I had personally rebuilt three failing divisions of this company.

She didn’t know that the reason Montalvo Global survived its worst financial crisis was because I spent six months sleeping in conference rooms while Alexander attended charity dinners.

She didn’t know that the woman she called an intern was the person who would sign her employment review in less than an hour.

The elevator doors opened.

I stepped out.

Camila followed behind me, still believing she had won.

“Security will escort you out soon,” she said.

I stopped walking.

“Really?”

She crossed her arms.

“Yes.”

I turned around.

“Then call them.”

Her smile disappeared slightly.

“What?”

“You seem very confident.”

“I don’t need to prove anything to you.”

“No,” I said calmly.

“You need to prove it to everyone else.”

The lobby became silent.

Several executives nearby started watching.

Camila pulled out her phone.

“I’ll call Mr. Montalvo.”

That was when I finally understood.

She wasn’t afraid of consequences.

Because Alexander had spent years making her believe there would never be any.

She pressed his number.

The call connected immediately.

“Alexander?”

Her voice changed completely.

Soft.

Gentle.

Almost innocent.

“There is a woman here causing trouble on the executive floor.”

I listened quietly.

Then she looked directly at me.

“She claims she belongs here.”

A few seconds passed.

Then her expression changed.

Only slightly.

But I noticed.

Because confidence disappeared from her eyes.

“What?”

She listened.

Then looked at me again.

“No, she’s standing right here.”

Another pause.

Her face slowly turned pale.

Because Alexander wasn’t asking her to remove me.

He was asking one question.

“Camila… what does she look like?”

I watched her swallow.

“She… she’s wearing a navy dress.”

Silence.

Then Alexander’s voice must have changed.

Because Camila immediately stood straighter.

“Alexander?”

The phone remained pressed against her ear.

Everyone was waiting.

Then she whispered:

“Who is she?”

I took a step forward.

And before Alexander could answer, I spoke.

“Tell him.”

Camila looked at me.

“Tell him the intern he wants removed is standing in front of you.”

I paused.

“Tell him his wife just arrived.”

The entire floor went silent.

The color drained from Camila’s face.

The phone slipped slightly in her hand.

Because she finally understood.

The woman she had humiliated.

The woman she had ordered around.

The woman she had tried to throw out of the building…

was the new CEO of Montalvo Global.

But the worst part wasn’t her mistake.

The worst part was what happened next.

Because after hearing my voice, Alexander didn’t apologize.

He didn’t ask if I was okay.

He didn’t ask why his secretary was wearing that watch.

The first thing he said was:

“Camila… don’t let her see the documents.”

My blood ran cold.

Documents?

What documents?

I looked at Camila.

She was terrified now.

And for the first time that morning…

I realized the watch was only the beginning.

Because whatever Alexander was hiding…

was big enough to make his secretary panic.

And small enough for him to think he could hide it from his wife.
