Part 2: Six Years Later, Adrian Finally Faced The Truth He Buried

Adrian thought the hardest part of returning to the city was signing the new contract.

He was wrong.

The hardest part was sitting across from Elena during dinner and pretending they were strangers.

Because every time he looked at her…

He remembered.

Six years ago, she had cried in front of him.

Today, she looked at him like he was just another client.

The dinner was held in a private room of the hotel.

Adrian sat beside Claire.

Their son, Ethan, sat between them.

Everyone around the table was discussing the cooperation project.

Only Adrian couldn’t focus.

His eyes kept moving toward Elena.

She was different.

Six years ago, she was soft.

She would lower her voice when speaking to him.

She would apologize even when she wasn’t wrong.

She would put his needs before hers.

But the woman sitting across from him now…

Was calm.

Confident.

Almost unreachable.

“Director Gu.”

Adrian finally spoke.

Everyone stopped.

Elena looked up.

“Yes, Mr. Shen?”

The way she said his name made his chest tighten.

Mr. Shen.

Not Adrian.

Not husband.

Not the man she once loved.

Just a client.

“I heard you have been very successful these years.”

Elena smiled politely.

“Fortunately.”

Claire suddenly interrupted.

“Elena was always very capable. Even when she worked at Shen Group, she handled many important projects.”

The words sounded like praise.

But Adrian noticed something.

Claire’s fingers tightened around her glass.

Because she knew.

She knew Elena was not the same woman they left behind.

After dinner ended, Adrian stayed behind.

“Elena.”

She stopped.

“What is it?”

He stared at her.

For several seconds, he couldn’t speak.

Finally:

“Do you hate me?”

The question surprised her.

But only slightly.

Elena looked at him.

“No.”

Adrian seemed relieved.

But then she continued:

“I don’t hate people who no longer matter to me.”

His expression froze.

That sentence hurt more than anger.

Because anger meant there was still emotion.

Indifference meant there was nothing left.

That night, Adrian couldn’t sleep.

He sat in the hotel room, looking at old photos on his phone.

Photos he had never deleted.

Their first apartment.

Their first business meeting.

The day they received their first major contract.

Elena smiling beside him.

Back then, he believed she would always be there.

Because Elena loved him too much to leave.

That was his biggest mistake.

He thought love was something he could spend endlessly.

Until one day…

There was nothing left.

The next morning, Adrian received a message from Claire.

We need to talk. Alone.

They met in the hotel garden.

Claire looked nervous.

“Adrian, Elena knows something.”

His eyes narrowed.

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t know.”

Claire lowered her voice.

“But yesterday when she looked at my bracelet…”

“She knew.”

Adrian’s expression changed.

The bracelet.

The one Claire wore.

The one that had disappeared after the divorce.

For the first time in six years…

A small crack appeared in his confidence.

“Impossible.”

Claire looked at him.

“You really think she is still the same Elena?”

Silence.

That afternoon, Elena received a package.

No sender.

Inside were documents.

Old company records.

Payment transfers.

And one handwritten letter.

She recognized the handwriting immediately.

It belonged to the former accountant of Shen Group.

Director Gu,

I kept these documents because I knew one day you would return.

What happened six years ago was not a divorce. It was a planned removal.

Adrian Shen and Claire Lin worked together to take control of the company.

The hotel incident was arranged.

The evidence was fabricated.

Your father’s patent rights were transferred illegally.

Elena read every line carefully.

Even though she already knew most of it.

The last sentence made her stop.

There is one thing you don’t know.

The person who ordered the photographer that night was not Adrian.

It was Claire.

Elena’s eyes became cold.

So that was the missing piece.

That evening, Adrian came to her office.

For the first time, he looked uncertain.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Elena looked up.

“Tell you what?”

“That you knew.”

She closed the document.

“I wanted to know how long you would continue pretending.”

His face changed.

“Elena…”

“No.”

She stood.

“Six years ago, you took everything from me.”

“My company.”

“My father’s patent.”

“My reputation.”

“And you thought leaving me with nothing meant you won.”

Adrian’s voice became low.

“I made mistakes.”

She smiled.

“Mistakes are forgetting someone’s birthday.”

“Mistakes are saying the wrong thing.”

“What you did was a choice.”

Every word landed heavily.

Then Adrian finally said the sentence he had avoided for six years.

“Claire was pregnant.”

Elena looked at him.

“I know.”

His face went pale.

“You knew?”

“Yes.”

“And you still said nothing?”

She looked at him calmly.

“Because I wanted to see if you would choose honesty.”

“But you never did.”

Silence filled the room.

At that moment, Adrian’s phone rang.

It was his lawyer.

His face changed after listening.

“What?”

Elena watched him quietly.

The lawyer continued:

“Mr. Shen, the patent ownership dispute has been reopened.”

“The evidence submitted proves the original transfer was unauthorized.”

“The company board is requesting your appearance tomorrow.”

Adrian slowly lowered the phone.

Because he finally understood.

The contract meeting.

The airport arrival.

The investigation.

Everything.

It was never a coincidence.

Elena had not invited him back into her life.

She had invited him back into the battlefield where he had buried her.

She walked toward the door.

“Adrian.”

He looked up.

“Yes?”

She paused.

“Six years ago, you left me with nothing.”

“But you forgot one thing.”

“What?”

“I was the person who built everything you took.”

Then she left.

And for the first time in six years…

Adrian Shen realized the woman he destroyed was the only person who could bring his entire empire down.
