PART 2: The Divorce Plan He Never Expected

I spent the rest of the flight sitting quietly by the window.

Nobody knew what was happening inside me.

The passengers saw a woman calmly reading documents on her laptop.

They saw someone composed.

Professional.

Untouchable.

But inside…

I was watching five years of marriage collapse in front of my eyes.

Not because my husband had another woman.

I had suspected that for months.

What broke me was something simpler.

He had looked at another woman the way he used to look at me.

And worse…

He had allowed strangers to believe she was his wife.

When we landed in Guangzhou, Daniel sent me a message.

“Did you arrive safely?”

I stared at those six words for almost a minute.

A normal husband would have asked:

Where are you?

Are you okay?

Why did you come over during the flight?

But Daniel didn’t mention anything.

He pretended nothing happened.

So I replied:

“Yes. Everything is fine.”

And then I turned off my phone.

For the first time in five years…

I stopped explaining myself.

That evening, I checked into my hotel.

I didn’t cry.

I didn’t call him.

Instead, I opened my laptop and started doing something Daniel never expected.

I started preparing.

Not revenge.

Not a scene.

A plan.

I reviewed our financial records.

Our property documents.

Our shared accounts.

Every conversation related to his business trips.

Every receipt.

Every strange schedule change.

I wasn’t looking for a reason to destroy him.

I was looking for the truth.

Because when someone decides to replace you…

the least you can do is stop helping them hide it.

The next morning, I returned home one day earlier than planned.

Daniel wasn’t expecting me.

When I opened the apartment door, everything looked normal.

His shoes were by the entrance.

His jacket was hanging on the chair.

A cup of coffee was still on the kitchen counter.

Then I saw something.

A small white scarf.

Not mine.

I picked it up.

The same style Sofia had been wearing on the plane.

For a few seconds, I just stood there.

Not because I was surprised.

Because I finally stopped making excuses for him.

That night, Daniel came home at eight.

He froze when he saw me sitting in the living room.

“Claire?”

I smiled.

“You’re surprised?”

He quickly recovered.

“No. I just thought your trip ended tomorrow.”

“It did.”

I looked at him.

“I came back early.”

He loosened his tie.

“How was Guangzhou?”

I almost laughed.

The audacity.

He was still pretending.

“Interesting.”

I watched his expression carefully.

Especially when I asked:

“How was your trip?”

His hand stopped.

Only for a second.

But I noticed.

“Work was busy.”

“With Secretary Tan?”

The color drained from his face.

“What?”

I placed my phone on the table.

A photo appeared.

Daniel sitting on the plane.

His arm around Sofia.

Her head resting on him.

His expression changed completely.

“Claire, this isn’t what you think.”

That sentence.

The oldest sentence in every betrayal.

I leaned back.

“Then tell me what it is.”

He opened his mouth.

Closed it.

Because for the first time…

he had no prepared answer.

“She was tired.”

“So she slept on your legs?”

“Claire—”

“And when the flight attendant asked if she was your wife, you said yes.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Absolute.

Daniel looked away.

That was the answer.

I nodded slowly.

“Do you know what hurt the most?”

He looked at me.

“I wasn’t angry because Sofia existed.”

His eyebrows moved.

“I was angry because you were comfortable.”

I stood up.

“You didn’t make a mistake.”

“You made a choice.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“Claire, please. We need to talk.”

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“We needed to talk months ago.”

He looked confused.

“What are you saying?”

I picked up a folder from the table.

A divorce agreement.

His face changed.

“You already prepared this?”

I looked at him.

“Yes.”

“But I didn’t sign it yet.”

His expression softened slightly.

He thought there was still room to negotiate.

Then I placed another document on top.

A copy of a transfer agreement.

For the apartment.

For my personal investments.

For everything I had built before our marriage.

Daniel picked it up.

His fingers trembled.

Because he finally realized something.

The quiet wife he thought would forgive everything…

had been preparing to leave.

Then his phone rang.

The screen lit up.

The name appeared clearly.

Sofia.

Daniel looked at it.

Then at me.

He didn’t answer.

But it didn’t matter.

Because the message preview appeared before he could hide it.

Three words.

Three words that changed his entire expression.

“I’m pregnant.”

And for the first time since the plane…

Daniel wasn’t afraid of losing me.

He was afraid of losing control of the situation.
