Part 2: The Empire That She Built

For the first time in four years, Sebastián Larrea was no longer the powerful businessman everyone feared.

He was a man trapped inside an empire that was collapsing around him.

But he still didn’t understand.

He still believed the situation could be fixed with a phone call.

With an apology.

With a few sweet words.

Because that was how he had always solved problems with me.

He would hurt me.

Then he would wait until my anger disappeared.

But this time was different.

This time, I wasn’t waiting.

I was leaving.

The morning after the market crash, every major financial newspaper carried the same headline.

“Larrea Consortium Faces Unprecedented Liquidity Crisis.”

The shares continued falling.

Investors demanded explanations.

Banks froze several lines of credit.

And the people who once surrounded Sebastián with admiration suddenly disappeared.

His friends stopped answering.

His business partners stopped inviting him to meetings.

The same people who praised his success now pretended they had never known him.

Meanwhile, I sat in my father’s mansion overlooking the ocean, reviewing reports from my legal team.

Alicia placed a folder on the table.

“Mrs. Montenegro, the final liquidation process is ready.”

I opened it.

Every asset connected to my family’s investment trusts had been removed.

Every financial support line had been terminated.

Every agreement that protected Larrea Consortium was gone.

Exactly as I ordered.

“Any response from Sebastián?”

Alicia hesitated.

“More than fifty calls.”

I smiled slightly.

“Blocked?”

“All of them.”

Good.

For four years, Sebastián had enjoyed the protection of my family’s name while pretending he built everything alone.

Now he would discover the difference between having power…

and borrowing it.

That afternoon, he finally found another way to reach me.

Not through his phone.

Not through his assistants.

Through my office.

The security guard called first.

“Mrs. Montenegro, Mr. Larrea is here.”

I looked at the clock.

Three days ago, I would have opened the door.

Three days ago, I still would have wanted an explanation.

Now?

I only asked:

“Does he look like a husband asking for forgiveness?”

The guard paused.

“No, ma’am.”

“Then?”

“He looks like someone who lost everything.”

I closed the folder.

“Tell him to leave.”

A few minutes later, another message arrived.

From Sebastián.

“Valentina, please. We need to talk.”

I stared at those words.

We need to talk.

How familiar.

Four years of marriage, and every serious conversation happened only when he was afraid of losing something.

Never when I was hurting.

Never when I was lonely.

Never when I needed him.

Only now.

I replied with one sentence.

“There is nothing left to discuss.”

His answer came immediately.

“You can’t do this.”

I almost laughed.

I could.

And I did.

Because Sebastián had forgotten something important.

The Larrea Consortium was not his.

The luxury apartment was not his.

The investments were not his.

Even the opportunity that made him famous had come from my family.

He had spent years believing he was carrying me.

When the truth was the opposite.

I had been carrying him.

That night, I received a confidential message from the creditor board.

The investigation was complete.

Sebastián had used company assets to secretly finance the boutique hotel project registered under Camila’s name.

Not only had he betrayed me emotionally.

He had risked the entire company for another woman.

A woman he believed would replace me.

I opened the attached documents.

The signatures.

The contracts.

The transfers.

Everything was there.

And then I noticed something.

Camila was not the only person involved.

There was another name connected to the project.

Someone who had been hiding behind Sebastián.

Someone who had been advising him from the beginning.

I looked at the document again.

Because the name was impossible.

It belonged to a person who had been close to my family for years.

Someone I trusted.

Someone who knew every weakness of the Montenegro fortune.

At that moment, I understood.

Camila had never been the biggest threat.

She was only the distraction.

The real person behind Sebastián’s downfall had been watching us from the shadows.

And now…

they knew I had discovered the truth.
