Part 2: The Husband Who Lost Everything While Saving Someone Else

That night, Adrian still believed everything would return to normal.

He believed that because he had signed the divorce agreement without reading it, it was just another document he could ignore.

He believed that because I had stayed silent for ten years, I would continue staying silent.

But he was wrong.

For the first time in my marriage, I was no longer waiting for him to understand me.

I was preparing to leave.

The next morning, Adrian woke up earlier than usual.

He saw the packed suitcase beside the door and frowned.

—Are you going somewhere?

I continued folding my clothes.

—Yes.

—Where?

I looked at him.

—Somewhere I can finally breathe.

His expression changed.

—Elena, don’t start again.

Again.

That word.

As if my pain was just another argument.
As if my disappointment was something temporary.
As if all these years of being placed behind Sofia could disappear because he brought me my favorite food once.

I closed the suitcase.

—Do you remember how many times you said it would be the last?

Adrian remained silent.

—The first time, I believed you.

I looked down.

—The second time, I wanted to believe you.

A pause.

—By the sixth time, I stopped believing anything you said.

He looked away.

—Sofia needed me.

I smiled.

There it was.

The same sentence.

Always Sofia.

Always someone else.

Never me.

—Adrian, do you know what is funny?

He looked at me.

—You spent ten years proving that you were the kind of man who would fight the entire world for someone you cared about.

My voice became quieter.

—But I never understood why I was never that person.

His face tightened.

—That’s not fair.

—No?

I picked up my medical documents from the table.

—When I was exhausted from working two jobs to support you during your company’s crisis, did you fight for me?

He didn’t answer.

—When I was humiliated by my supervisor and came home crying, did you fight for me?

Silence.

—When I lost my father and couldn’t sleep for months, did you stay awake beside me?

His expression changed slightly.

Because he remembered.

And because he knew the answer.

No.

I continued:

—But when Sofia called, you always appeared.

No matter the time.
No matter the situation.
No matter the cost.

Adrian clenched his jaw.

—You are jealous of my friendship with her.

I looked at him for a long time.

Then I shook my head.

—That’s the saddest thing.

—After everything, you still think this is about jealousy.

Before he could respond, my phone rang.

It was my lawyer.

I answered in front of him.

—Yes. Everything is ready.

Adrian’s eyes narrowed.

—Lawyer?

I ended the call.

—Yes.

For the first time, panic appeared on his face.

—Elena.

I looked at him calmly.

—You signed the agreement yesterday.

His expression froze.

—What agreement?

I smiled slightly.

—The one you didn’t read because Sofia was crying.

The room became silent.

I took out a copy.

—The divorce.

—The property separation.

—The agreement regarding our child.

Adrian grabbed the papers.

His face became paler with every line he read.

—You…

He looked at me.

—You planned this.

I shook my head.

—No.

A pause.

—I gave you many chances.

I touched my stomach gently.

—Our son deserves a father who knows how to protect his own family.

Adrian’s breathing became heavier.

—You can’t just leave.

I looked at him.

—Why?

—Because I am your husband?

I smiled sadly.

—Were you?

That question hurt him more than anything else.

Because for the first time, he had no excuse.

At that moment, his phone rang.

Sofia.

He looked at the screen.

Then looked at me.

For a second, I thought he would finally choose differently.

But old habits were stronger.

He answered.

—Sofia, what happened?

I closed my eyes.

Even now.

Even at this moment.

She was still the first person he worried about.

I walked toward the door.

—Elena.

He called my name.

I stopped.

But I didn’t turn around.

—This time, I won’t ask you to choose.

Silence.

—Because you already chose.

I left.

Three days later, Adrian finally discovered the truth about the money that saved his company years ago.

He found an old bank transfer.

The name on it was not Sofia Su.

It was mine.

The patent that he thought Sofia had sacrificed for him…

had actually belonged to me.

The woman he had spent ten years protecting had only delivered the help.

She had never been the person who saved him.

And when Adrian confronted Sofia, he uncovered something even more shocking.

Because Sofia had not just hidden the truth about the company.

She had hidden the truth about every fight.

Every injury.
Every police report.
Every “coincidence.”

And the reason she always needed Adrian to rescue her…

was not because she was helpless.

It was because she knew exactly how to make him abandon me.
