PART 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE BLOOD DONATION

I stood frozen in front of Adrián and Sofia.

The little girl was still holding her stuffed animal, completely unaware that her innocent question had destroyed the last piece of trust I had left.

“Dad… why are you taking care of that lady?”

That lady.

Two simple words.

But they revealed something I had ignored for too long.

In Adrián’s world, I was no longer the woman he promised to marry.

I was no longer the woman who had spent seven years preparing for a future with him.

I was just the person who gave him something he desperately needed.

My blood.

My sacrifice.

My life.

Adrián quickly walked toward Sofia.

“Sofia, go back to your room. Adults are talking.”

But the little girl looked confused.

“Why? You told me Mom was your family too.”

The room suddenly became silent.

I turned slowly toward Adrián.

Mom.

Family.

Words that should have meant nothing if everything was innocent.

But his expression changed immediately.

Fear appeared in his eyes.

Not sadness.

Not regret.

Fear.

“Adrián,” I said quietly.

“Who exactly is Clara to you?”

He looked away.

“Elena, this is not the time.”

I almost laughed.

Not the time.

That was always his answer.

It was not the time when I asked why Clara called him late at night.

It was not the time when he disappeared for hours.

It was not the time when I asked why he cared more about another woman’s family than the child growing inside me.

And now, after everything he had done, it was still not the time.

I walked toward the table.

The medical documents were still there.

I picked them up again.

The compatibility report was still inside.

The paper that changed everything.

Sofia’s treatment records.

The blood analysis.

The emergency donor list.

My hands began shaking when I saw the date.

The tests had been completed three months earlier.

Three months before Adrián took my blood reserve.

Three months before he told everyone there was no other option.

Three months before he decided my life was something he could gamble with.

I looked at the final page.

And there it was.

Another compatible donor.

Someone who could have saved Sofia.

Someone whose name made my chest tighten.

Clara.

I looked at Adrián.

“You knew.”

His face became pale.

“Listen to me, Elena…”

“No.”

My voice was calm.

Too calm.

“You knew Clara was compatible.”

“You knew there was another choice.”

“And you still used my blood.”

Adrián stepped closer.

“I was trying to save a child.”

I stared at him.

“No.”

“You were trying to save someone you cared about.”

“And you decided I was the person who could be sacrificed.”

His expression hardened.

“You’re making this bigger than it is.”

That sentence broke something inside me.

Because he still didn’t understand.

He thought the problem was the blood.

He thought the problem was Clara.

But the real problem was that he had looked at me, the woman carrying his children, and decided I could lose everything without being asked.

I placed the document on the table.

“Our wedding is next month.”

He became silent.

I continued.

“But I don’t think there will be a wedding anymore.”

His eyes widened.

“Elena…”

“No.”

I stepped back.

“For seven years, I protected myself because I believed someone would protect me when I needed them.”

“I was wrong.”

Suddenly my phone rang.

The hospital.

I answered.

“Ms. Elena, we reviewed your medical records again.”

The doctor’s voice sounded serious.

“There is something you need to know.”

My heart started beating faster.

“What is it?”

A long pause followed.

Then the doctor spoke carefully.

“The procedure you signed for today was not processed the way you think.”

I looked at Adrián.

He immediately looked away.

The doctor continued.

“Someone contacted the hospital before your arrival.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“Who?”

Another pause.

Then the answer came.

And the moment I heard the name, everything finally made sense.

Because the person who had taken my blood…

Was also the person who tried to control what happened to my babies.

I slowly lowered the phone.

Adrián was watching me.

And for the first time, he realized something.

I was no longer the woman who would forgive him.

I was the woman who had finally discovered the truth.
