PART 2: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE TEN BILLION PESOS

Three days after leaving Rodrigo Elizondo’s mansion, I thought I had finally escaped.

For the first time in three years, I woke up without waiting for someone to decide whether I was important.

No schedules.

No rules.

No cold instructions from people who saw me only as the mother of their heirs.

Just me and my children.

The ocean outside our hotel room was bright blue, and my daughter was sleeping peacefully beside me while my son built towers with his toys on the floor.

For the first time, I felt something I had forgotten existed.

Peace.

But Rodrigo did not.

The message he sent that night was the first sign.

Then came the calls.

I ignored every one.

At first, he called three times a day.

Then ten.

Then more.

I never answered.

Because for three years, I had waited for him to call me when I was sitting beside him.

When I was pregnant.

When I gave birth.

When I cried alone in that enormous house.

He had never looked for me then.

So why should I run back now?

A week later, I received a message from his lawyer.

“Miss Camila, Mr. Elizondo requests a meeting regarding the custody arrangement.”

I stared at the screen.

Custody.

That word made me laugh.

Because Rodrigo had spent three years barely noticing the children unless his family needed to show them to outsiders.

I replied with one sentence.

“My children are not an arrangement.”

The lawyer called immediately.

“Miss Camila, please reconsider.”

“No.”

“You may not understand the seriousness of the situation.”

I smiled.

“No, sir.”

“I understand perfectly.”

“They wanted heirs.”

“They got them.”

“They wanted me gone.”

“I left.”

The line became silent.

Then the lawyer lowered his voice.

“There is something you don’t know.”

I paused.

“What?”

“The ten billion pesos.”

My expression changed slightly.

“What about it?”

“It wasn’t a payment to make you disappear.”

I frowned.

“Then what was it?”

The lawyer hesitated.

“It was a transfer of ownership.”

I stood still.

“What?”

“Please listen carefully.”

“Mr. Rodrigo’s family trust had a condition.”

“What condition?”

“If the mother of his children accepted the separation agreement, she would receive a protected inheritance fund.”

I felt confused.

“Why?”

“Because the trust recognized that you sacrificed three years of your life raising the heirs.”

I looked at my children.

The toys scattered across the floor.

The small clothes hanging near the balcony.

Everything I had built alone.

“So Rodrigo knew?”

“Yes.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“He knew exactly what I was signing?”

“Yes.”

That answer hurt more than I expected.

Because it meant he didn’t accidentally treat me like someone disposable.

He made a decision.

He knew he was giving me freedom.

And he thought money would be enough.

That night, I finally answered his call.

The moment he heard my voice, he went silent.

“Camila.”

His voice sounded different.

Tired.

Angry.

Confused.

“What do you want, Rodrigo?”

A long pause.

“Why did you leave so easily?”

I almost laughed.

“So easily?”

“Yes.”

“You didn’t cry.”

“You didn’t ask me to stay.”

“You didn’t even argue.”

I looked out at the ocean.

“Did you want me to?”

He didn’t answer.

And that silence told me everything.

Rodrigo had expected tears.

He had expected me to beg.

He had expected the same woman who accepted being hidden for three years.

But she no longer existed.

“You always said everything had a price,” I said quietly.

“Remember?”

He stayed silent.

“You offered me money when you needed a child.”

“You offered me a house when you needed a mother for those children.”

“And when you no longer needed me, you offered me more money to leave.”

“Rodrigo, you never once asked what I wanted.”

His breathing became heavier.

“Camila…”

“No.”

I interrupted.

“For once, listen.”

“I was never angry because you didn’t love me.”

“People cannot force love.”

“I was hurt because you convinced me I had value only when I was useful.”

The line was silent.

Then he said something unexpected.

“I thought you would come back.”

I closed my eyes.

“Why?”

“Because you had nowhere else to go.”

That sentence confirmed everything.

He never saw me as someone who could leave.

He saw me as someone who depended on him.

I smiled sadly.

“That was your mistake.”

After I ended the call, I thought it was over.

But the next morning, something unexpected happened.

Every major news channel was reporting the same thing.

The Elizondo Group had lost a major investor.

The stock price had dropped.

And the reason shocked everyone.

A private investment company had withdrawn support.

The company’s name appeared on the screen.

A company I recognized.

Because I had seen it before.

Years ago.

Before I met Rodrigo.

Before I entered that mansion.

Before I became the hidden mother of his children.

I had worked for that company.

And the person controlling it…

was someone Rodrigo never expected.

My phone rang.

This time, it wasn’t Rodrigo.

It was someone from my past.

Someone who knew exactly who I was before I became “the woman behind the Elizondo heirs.”

“Camila.”

I froze.

Because I hadn’t heard that voice in years.

“Your divorce agreement has been activated.”

I looked at my children.

“What are you talking about?”

The voice lowered.

“The moment Rodrigo signed those papers…”

“He triggered the clause you never knew existed.”

My heart began beating faster.

“What clause?”

A pause.

Then the answer came.

“The clause that transfers control of half of the Elizondo family’s most valuable assets…”

“To the mother of his children.”

I stopped breathing.

Because suddenly I understood.

Rodrigo thought he had paid me to disappear.

But he had actually handed me the power to destroy the world he built.

And the worst part for him…

I never wanted revenge.

But now that the truth was revealed…

I was no longer the woman who needed permission to exist.
