PART 2: The Brother Who Knew The Truth

Sebastian stared at me.

For several seconds, he didn’t say anything.

The confidence that had always been on his face disappeared.

Because I had said something impossible.

Something that only he and Adrian should have known.

“Claire…”

His voice was different.

Not playful.

Not arrogant.

Nervous.

“What exactly happened last night?”

I tilted my head.

Just like a confused girlfriend would.

“Why are you asking me that?”

He put down his coffee cup.

“You don’t remember?”

I smiled softly.

“Of course I remember.”

His fingers tightened.

“Tell me.”

I walked past him and sat on the sofa.

Then I looked at him.

“The person who came to pick me up was very gentle.”

Sebastian froze.

“Gentle?”

“Yes.”

I looked away, pretending to remember.

“He held me carefully.”

“He prepared medicine for my headache.”

“He even noticed I was cold.”

Every word made Sebastian’s expression worse.

Because he knew.

That wasn’t him.

Sebastian had never done those things.

Not once.

For almost a year, I had waited for small gestures from him.

A message asking if I got home safely.

A surprise dinner.

A simple “I miss you.”

But he always said he was too busy.

Now, the man he considered impossible to get close to had done everything naturally.

“Claire.”

His voice became low.

“Did Adrian come to get you?”

I looked at him.

Then smiled.

“Why would you think that?”

The silence answered for him.

He knew.

He knew exactly what happened.

And for the first time, Sebastian realized something terrifying.

He had given away something he thought belonged to him.

After all, that was how he saw me.

Not as a person.

As something he owned.

Something he could use to win a bet.

Something he could hand to someone else and take back whenever he wanted.

“Did you talk to Adrian?”

I pretended to hesitate.

“A little.”

“What did he say?”

I looked at him carefully.

“He said something strange.”

Sebastian immediately became tense.

“What?”

I leaned back.

“He said you were not the person I thought you were.”

His face changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

Because Adrian had always been the one person Sebastian couldn’t control.

The older twin was calm.

Cold.

Impossible to manipulate.

And now Sebastian was afraid.

Not because he had lost a bet.

Because Adrian knew the truth.

That night, I left Sebastian’s apartment without saying anything else.

He tried to stop me.

“Claire, wait.”

I turned around.

“Yes?”

He looked at me.

And for a moment, I saw the old Sebastian.

The one who chased me for three months.

The one who promised I was special.

But then I remembered his voice behind that door.

“She’s just a woman.”

And every feeling disappeared.

“I need time,” I said.

His eyes widened.

“Time for what?”

I smiled.

“To decide whether I still want to know you.”

Then I left.

For the first time since we met, Sebastian was the one standing there watching someone walk away.

That afternoon, I received a message.

From Adrian.

Only three words.

“We need to talk.”

I stared at the screen.

I knew this moment would come.

Because Adrian was not like Sebastian.

He didn’t chase attention.

He didn’t play games.

He observed.

He remembered.

And he knew exactly what happened that night.

We met at a quiet café.

Adrian was already there.

He stood when he saw me.

“Claire.”

I sat down.

“Adrian.”

Neither of us spoke for a while.

Then he said:

“You knew.”

I looked at him.

“Knew what?”

“That I wasn’t Sebastian.”

The air became still.

I didn’t answer immediately.

Because there was no reason to lie.

“Yes.”

Adrian lowered his eyes.

“Since when?”

“Since the moment you called me Claire.”

His expression changed.

“Sebastian never calls you that.”

I smiled faintly.

“He calls me whatever is convenient.”

Adrian looked at me.

And for the first time, I saw something different in his eyes.

Not pity.

Not curiosity.

Respect.

“You heard everything.”

I nodded.

“Almost everything.”

His jaw tightened.

“I didn’t know he would do that.”

“I know.”

“Otherwise I wouldn’t have taken you away.”

I looked at him.

“You could have told me the truth.”

“Yes.”

A pause.

“But you were hurt.”

I remained silent.

Because that was the first time someone had understood what I felt without asking me to explain.

Adrian continued:

“Sebastian always thinks people stay because they love him.”

“He never considers that one day someone might stop.”

I looked outside the window.

“Maybe I loved him.”

Adrian nodded.

“But?”

I smiled sadly.

“But I loved myself more.”

For a moment, Adrian said nothing.

Then his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

His expression changed.

“What happened?”

He listened.

Then stood up.

“Sebastian knows.”

I frowned.

“What?”

Adrian looked at me.

“He found out you knew about the bet.”

My heart remained calm.

Because I had expected it.

But Adrian added something that surprised me.

“He also found the recording.”

“What recording?”

He hesitated.

“The conversation from that night.”

I froze.

“The one where Sebastian said you were just a woman.”

“Yes.”

“Who has it?”

Adrian looked at me.

“I do.”

The world became quiet.

Because suddenly I understood.

Adrian had not only heard everything.

He had kept proof.

Not to hurt his brother.

Not to win against him.

But because he knew one day I would need the truth.

Then my phone rang.

Sebastian.

I looked at his name.

A year ago, I would have answered immediately.

Now…

I let it ring.

A second later, a message appeared.

“Claire, we need to talk. Adrian lied to you.”

I looked at Adrian.

He saw the message.

Then he smiled slightly.

Because both of us knew.

The game had changed.

Sebastian thought he was the one who betrayed me.

But he didn’t realize something.

The woman he thought would never leave…

Had already walked away.

And the person he never expected to trust…

Was the one who had been protecting the truth all along.
