Adrian arrived at my office three days after I blocked him.
Three days.
That was all it took for him to realize something was wrong.
Not because he missed me.
Because I stopped responding.
The old Emma would have answered every call.
The old Emma would have cried.
The old Emma would have explained why leaving her in the rain hurt.
But that woman no longer existed.
When he walked into my office, he still had the same confident expression.
The expression of a man who believed everything could be fixed if he simply decided to fix it.
“Emma.”
I didn’t look up.
“Mr. Shaw.”
That cold greeting made him freeze.
Because I had never spoken to him like that.
Not once in five years.
“You really blocked me?”
I continued reading the document.
“Yes.”
“Because of a candy?”
I finally raised my eyes.
And I realized something.
He still didn’t understand.
Not even now.
“Is that what you think happened?”
Adrian frowned.
“Then explain.”
I closed the folder.
“It’s not about the candy.”
“It’s about the fact that on the day we were supposed to become husband and wife, you chose another woman.”
His expression changed.
“That’s not what happened.”
I almost smiled.
The same answer.
The same excuse.
“You left me alone in the rain because Chloe needed something.”
“She was sick.”
“And I was sick too.”
Silence.
For a moment, Adrian had no response.
Then he lowered his voice.
“Emma, I was angry.”
“Yes.”
“You were angry.”
I nodded.
“And you decided I deserved to be abandoned.”
His face tightened.
“I came back.”
“Three days later.”
He looked away.
Because even he knew.
Three days was not a misunderstanding.
Three days was a choice.
Before he could answer, my assistant knocked on the door.
“Mrs. Hart, your husband has arrived.”
Adrian turned instantly.
“Your husband?”
The door opened.
Lucas walked in.
Calm.
Elegant.
Confident.
The complete opposite of the man standing in front of me.
He placed a hand gently on my shoulder.
“Are you ready?”
I smiled.
“Yes.”
Adrian stared at us.
Then his eyes moved to my hand.
To the ring.
The ring he had never placed there.
The ring Lucas had given me the day we registered our marriage.
“You…”
His voice became quiet.
“You actually married him?”
I looked at him.
“Yes.”
His face lost color.
“But we were supposed to get married.”
I looked at him for several seconds.
“No, Adrian.”
“We were supposed to register a marriage.”
“But you destroyed everything before we arrived.”
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Lucas looked at him calmly.
“Mr. Shaw, if you have no professional reason to be here, please leave.”
Adrian ignored him.
He looked only at me.
“How could you do this?”
I was surprised.
“How could I?”
“Yes.”
“After five years.”
I laughed softly.
Not happily.
Just because the question was unbelievable.
“Adrian, after five years, you still don’t understand.”
He stepped closer.
“You replaced me.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“You replaced yourself.”
Those words finally hurt him.
Because they were true.
He wasn’t abandoned.
He abandoned.
That afternoon, Adrian returned to Chloe.
But something had changed.
For the first time, he didn’t see her as the fragile woman who needed protection.
He started noticing details.
The way she always appeared when he was about to leave.
The way every problem became an emergency.
The way she always needed him to choose her.
That night, Chloe called.
“Adrian, where are you?”
“At home.”
“With Emma?”
He frowned.
“No.”
There was silence.
Then her voice softened.

“Are you angry?”
He didn’t answer.
Because for the first time, he asked himself a question.
Why had he spent years protecting Chloe’s feelings while ignoring Emma’s?
The next morning, he found something unexpected.
A message from one of his employees.
A photo.
The strawberry candies he bought that night.
Hundreds of them.
But the receipt showed something strange.
They weren’t bought for Chloe’s health.
They were bought because Chloe had asked him to prove that he would choose her over Emma.
Adrian stared at the screen.
His hands became cold.
Then another message arrived.
A hospital record.
Chloe had never had the serious condition she claimed.
The doctor had written:
“No medical necessity for emergency sugar intake.”
Adrian sat there for a long time.
Because suddenly the entire memory changed.
The candy.
The argument.
The wedding day.
Everything.
He had destroyed his relationship for a lie.
But the biggest shock came when he went to find Emma.
He arrived at the Hart Group building.
He waited outside.
When he finally saw her, she was smiling.
Not the forced smile she used to show him.
A real one.
The kind he hadn’t seen in years.
Lucas walked beside her.
He opened the car door for her.
She thanked him.
A simple gesture.
A normal gesture.
But Adrian felt something break inside.
Because he remembered.
Five years ago, Emma had waited in the rain.
Waiting for him to come back.
And now…
Someone else was the person who came when she needed him.
“Emma.”
She stopped.
But she didn’t look surprised.
“What do you want?”
Adrian swallowed.
For the first time, he didn’t know what to say.
“I was wrong.”
She remained silent.
“I made a mistake.”
“No.”
Her voice was calm.
“You made a choice.”
Those words left him speechless.
Because they were the same words she had been living with.
He lowered his head.
“Can we start again?”
Emma looked at him.
Then at Lucas waiting nearby.
And she answered:
“No.”
A pause.
“Because I don’t want the life I almost had anymore.”
Adrian stood there.
Watching the woman who once loved him walk away.
But just as he thought everything was over…
His phone rang.
It was Chloe.
He answered.
Her voice was panicked.
“Adrian…”
“I need your help.”
He closed his eyes.
Because even now…
even after losing Emma…
Chloe was still asking him to choose.
But this time, Adrian finally understood something.
The person who always demanded to be chosen…
was never the person who truly loved him.
And the person who loved him…
was the one he had already lost forever.
