PART 2: THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO DISAPPEAR

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Sebastian’s hand was still holding my wrist.

Not tightly like before.

This time it was different.

It was fear.

The same man who had faced business wars, enemies, and countless negotiations was afraid of one thing.

Me leaving.

I slowly looked at his hand.

Then at him.

“Mr. Song.”

His fingers loosened immediately.

That name hurt him more than I expected.

Because for three years, I had always called him Sebastian.

With love.

With trust.

With the belief that we would spend our lives together.

Now I gave him the same distance he had given me.

Isabella stood outside the car, watching everything.

Her expression was no longer the fragile face from the phone call.

It was confusion.

Because the story Sebastian had told her was falling apart.

“You said she didn’t matter.”

Her voice trembled.

Sebastian closed his eyes.

“Isabella…”

“No.”

She stepped back.

“You said the marriage was only an agreement.”

Silence.

“You said there was no child.”

Silence again.

I watched them.

And for the first time, I understood something.

I was not the woman who had been replaced.

I was the person who had been lied to by both sides.

Sebastian opened the door.

“Let’s talk somewhere else.”

Isabella looked at me.

“No.”

Her voice became colder.

“I want to know now.”

Sebastian’s expression changed.

“Isabella.”

“Did you love her?”

The question stopped everything.

Even me.

Because I wanted to know the answer too.

Sebastian looked at me.

Only for a second.

But that second was enough.

Because there was hesitation.

And hesitation was sometimes more painful than a clear answer.

“I…”

He stopped.

Isabella laughed softly.

A broken laugh.

“You don’t even know how to answer.”

I stepped away.

“This conversation has nothing to do with me.”

Sebastian turned immediately.

“Nothing to do with you?”

I looked at him.

“You chose this.”

His face changed.

“I made a mistake.”

I smiled.

A small smile.

“Everyone says that after they lose control of the consequences.”

I walked toward the clinic entrance.

But before I entered, I heard Isabella say something.

Something that made me stop.

“Sebastian.”

A pause.

“Did you really think she would wait forever?”

I didn’t turn around.

Because that question was no longer important.

I had waited enough.

Inside the clinic, I sat down and touched my stomach.

My daughter.

The little life that had been caught between adults who made selfish choices.

I didn’t know what the future would look like.

But I knew one thing.

I would never let my daughter grow up feeling unwanted.

Not by me.

Not by anyone.

Thirty minutes later, my phone rang.

Sebastian.

I watched the screen.

Then answered.

“Yes?”

His breathing was heavy.

“Where are you?”

“The clinic.”

“I know.”

Silence.

Then:

“Evelyn.”

His voice was different.

“Are you really planning to end the pregnancy?”

I looked at the doctor walking past.

“I don’t know.”

That answer surprised him.

“You don’t know?”

“No.”

I closed my eyes.

“Because this decision was never about hurting you.”

“It’s about protecting her.”

Another silence.

Then he said:

“I want to be there.”

I almost laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was unbelievable.

“Now?”

“Yes.”

“Why now?”

He had no answer.

Because the truth was obvious.

He had only started seeing what he was about to lose after Isabella appeared and his perfect plan collapsed.

“I was wrong.”

His voice was low.

“I thought I could separate my past and my present.”

“And you couldn’t.”

“No.”

He admitted it.

“I couldn’t.”

For a moment, I heard the man I married.

Not the businessman.

Not the cold heir of the Song family.

Just Sebastian.

A man who had finally realized the damage he caused.

But realization didn’t erase pain.

“Sebastian.”

“Yes?”

“Do you remember the first ultrasound?”

He became silent.

“I was crying.”

“I was scared.”

“I held your hand and asked if you were happy.”

His voice became softer.

“I remember.”

“What did you say?”

Another pause.

Then:

“I said I was.”

I looked down.

“You were lying.”

“No.”

His voice broke.

“I wasn’t.”

I didn’t answer.

Because maybe he wasn’t.

Maybe somewhere inside him, he had been happy.

But happiness meant nothing if he didn’t protect it.

The next morning, something unexpected happened.

The news about Sebastian’s divorce spread through the business world.

But not because he left his wife.

Because Isabella Xu publicly announced something.

She said she had been deceived.

She revealed that Sebastian had told her his marriage was only a contract.

The same story he had told me.

But there was one detail she didn’t know.

I had kept copies of every document.

Every message.

Every financial agreement.

Every proof of the life Sebastian and I built together.

Because I had always been careful.

Not suspicious.

Just practical.

And now those documents would reveal something Sebastian never expected.

The villa he transferred to me.

The company shares he offered.

The compensation he prepared.

They were not kindness.

They were protection.

Because three years earlier, before our marriage, Sebastian had signed another agreement.

An agreement that would only activate if he abandoned his family for another woman.

And now…

that clause had become valid.

The man who thought he was giving me everything in the divorce…

had unknowingly handed me the power to take control of the future he built.
