PART 2: The Children He Lost and the Truth He Never Saw

The name Serena froze everyone around us.

For six years, I had tried not to remember that name.

Serena Blake.

The woman who had been more important than me.

The woman Adrian chose on the night he left me alone in the rain.

But now she was standing in the same airport.

And somehow, she was connected to my daughter’s illness.

I looked at Adrian.

“You brought her here?”

His expression changed.

“No.”

For the first time, I heard something unusual in his voice.

Fear.

“Elena, listen to me.”

“I don’t know everything yet.”

“But I know Serena has been hiding something for years.”

I wanted to believe him.

But believing Adrian Cole had once been my biggest mistake.

“I don’t care about your problems with Serena.”

“My daughter needs a doctor, not your family drama.”

Adrian looked at Mia.

His eyes softened.

“I know.”

“That’s why I need to stay.”

Before I could answer, Marcus approached quickly.

“Mr. Cole.”

“Security found Serena near the private terminal.”

Adrian’s expression turned cold.

“Bring her here.”

A few minutes later, Serena Blake appeared.

She was still elegant.

Still beautiful.

Still carrying the confidence of someone who believed the world would forgive her.

But this time, she looked nervous.

When she saw Adrian, she smiled.

“Adrian.”

Then her eyes moved to me.

And finally to the children.

The smile disappeared.

Especially when she saw Mia.

Because Mia had Adrian’s eyes.

There was no denying it.

Serena took a step back.

“You found them.”

The sentence was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

My body went cold.

Adrian noticed.

“What did you mean?”

Serena didn’t answer.

“Serena.”

His voice became dangerous.

“What did you mean when you said we found them?”

She looked away.

“I didn’t mean anything.”

But Adrian had spent years reading people.

And now he finally saw what he had ignored before.

The lies.

The secrets.

The manipulation.

“Tell me the truth.”

Serena laughed softly.

A bitter laugh.

“After six years, you finally ask?”

The entire terminal became silent.

She looked at me.

“You really don’t know, do you?”

I didn’t respond.

Because I already knew.

Whatever came next would change everything.

Serena took a deep breath.

“Adrian never left you because of me.”

His eyes narrowed.

“What are you talking about?”

“He left because his grandfather threatened to remove him from the Cole family if he didn’t end the marriage.”

I looked at Adrian.

He didn’t deny it.

And that hurt more than any lie.

“You knew?”

I whispered.

Adrian looked down.

“Elena…”

“You knew?”

His silence was the answer.

Six years.

Six years thinking I wasn’t enough.

Thinking he chose another woman because I wasn’t loved.

But the truth was even worse.

He sacrificed me because it was easier.

Serena continued.

“But I didn’t expect him to actually leave you.”

“He was supposed to divorce you temporarily and come back.”

I laughed.

A painful laugh.

“Temporarily.”

The same word.

The same wound.

Adrian closed his eyes.

Because he remembered.

I remembered too.

The day he destroyed our marriage.

The day he made me feel disposable.

Then Serena looked at Mia.

“And when I discovered she was pregnant…”

Her voice changed.

“I knew everything would change.”

Adrian turned sharply.

“What?”

Serena became pale.

“I found the medical records.”

My hands tightened.

“You knew about my children?”

She didn’t answer.

That was enough.

Adrian stepped forward.

“You knew Elena was pregnant?”

Serena’s eyes filled with fear.

“Adrian…”

“Answer me.”

She lowered her head.

“Yes.”

The silence that followed was terrifying.

For six years, Adrian believed he had lost something he never knew existed.

But the truth was someone had stolen those years from him.

And from me.

“Why?”

My voice shook.

Serena looked at me.

“Because if he knew about the children, he would never come back to me.”

There it was.

The truth.

Not love.

Not destiny.

Just selfishness.

Adrian looked like he had been hit.

“The poisoning…”

Marcus stepped forward.

“We found evidence.”

“Serena had access to Mia’s medical information.”

My heart stopped.

Adrian turned toward her.

“You hurt my daughter?”

Serena immediately shook her head.

“No.”

“I only wanted to slow things down.”

“Slow things down?”

Adrian’s voice broke.

“She’s a child.”

“I didn’t want her to die.”

“You wanted control.”

Serena had no answer.

The security team escorted her away.

But the damage was already done.

The airport slowly returned to normal.

The doors opened.

People started moving again.

But my world had changed completely.

Adrian stood in front of me.

Not as the powerful heir.

Not as the man everyone feared.

Just as a father who had missed six years.

“Elena.”

I looked at him.

“I am sorry.”

Those words.

Six years too late.

“I should have searched for you.”

“Yes.”

“I should have believed you.”

“Yes.”

“I should have protected you.”

I looked at Mia.

Then Noah.

“You should have.”

His eyes filled with regret.

“I know I don’t deserve forgiveness.”

“No.”

I answered honestly.

“You don’t.”

He accepted it.

Because for once, he wasn’t trying to defend himself.

“I still want to help Mia.”

I looked at him.

“Because she’s your daughter?”

“Yes.”

“Not because you feel guilty?”

He shook his head.

“Because I love her.”

The answer was simple.

But love was not enough to erase six years.

The doctors confirmed that Mia’s condition could be treated.

The poisoning was stopped.

And for the first time, Adrian was able to be part of his children’s lives.

But not mine.

Months later, Adrian still came to every appointment.

He learned Noah’s favorite books.

He learned Mia hated hospitals but loved drawing.

He learned the small things I had learned alone.

The things he had missed.

One evening, he found me outside the clinic.

“Elena.”

I turned.

“I know you may never forgive me.”

I didn’t answer.

“But thank you.”

“For what?”

“For letting me know my children.”

I looked at him for a long time.

Then I said:

“Don’t thank me.”

“Thank the children.”

“They deserved a father.”

Adrian nodded.

Years later, people asked if we ever reunited.

The answer was no.

Because some love stories do not end with two people returning to each other.

Sometimes they end with two people finally becoming the parents their children needed.

Adrian Cole lost six years.

He lost my trust.

He lost the woman who once would have given him everything.

But he gained the chance to become someone better.

And I gained something even more important.

A life where I was no longer waiting for someone to choose me.

Because I had already chosen myself.
