PART 2: THE PRIVATE JET WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING

Adrian stared at Julian as if he had spoken another language.

—Your sister?

Julian didn’t answer him.

He walked straight toward me.

When he saw how I was holding my left arm, his expression hardened.

—Can you walk?

—Yes.

May be an image of one or more people

—Did you hit your head?

—Yes.

That was enough.

He took off his coat, placed it around my shoulders without touching the injured side, and called the hospital.

Behind us, Margaret finally found her voice.

—Claire never told us she had a brother.

Julian slowly turned.

—Did you ever ask?

Silence.

Adrian looked at me.

—Claire, what’s going on?

I almost laughed.

Three years of marriage, and this was the first time my husband genuinely wanted to know who I was.

—I’m leaving.

His face tightened.

—Because of what happened tonight?

Julian’s eyes became dangerously cold.

—You pushed her down a staircase, and you’re asking whether she’s leaving because of “what happened tonight”?

Adrian ignored him.

—Claire, I already transferred you money. Tomorrow I’ll arrange the best specialist.

I pulled out my phone.

Opened the banking app.

And returned all 300,000 yuan.

Adrian’s phone vibrated.

His expression changed when he saw the notification.

—What are you doing?

—Returning your money.

—You need it for treatment.

—No.

I looked at Julian.

—My family owns the hospital you’re planning to send me to.

Margaret’s face went blank.

Julian helped me toward the door.

Then Vanessa appeared upstairs.

She was wearing Adrian’s jacket.

—Adrian?

Julian glanced at her, then at me.

He understood immediately.

—So that’s Vanessa.

Her face stiffened.

—You know me?

—Unfortunately.

That single word made her pale.

But Julian didn’t explain.

Neither did I.

At the hospital, scans confirmed a fractured collarbone and a concussion.

Julian stayed beside me until dawn.

When the doctor left, he finally asked:

—Do you want me to destroy Lawson Group?

I shook my head.

—No.

He looked surprised.

—I just want a divorce.

Julian stared at me for several seconds.

Then nodded.

—Fine. But you’re coming home.

Home.

I hadn’t heard anyone use that word for the Foster estate in three years.

I had left my family after marrying Adrian because I wanted one thing that belonged to me.

A marriage that wasn’t arranged through wealth.

A husband who loved Claire instead of the Foster name.

So I had hidden everything.

Adrian believed my parents were ordinary retired businesspeople.

He never knew Foster Holdings owned hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, luxury hotels and one of the largest private aviation companies in the country.

And I never corrected him.

The next morning, a medical vehicle took me directly to the private terminal.

Our jet was waiting.

Julian was helping me aboard when three black cars suddenly stopped outside.

Adrian got out of the first.

He looked like he hadn’t slept.

—Claire!

I stopped.

He hurried toward me.

—You can’t leave the country without talking to me.

—Watch me.

—We’re married.

—Not for much longer.

He looked at the aircraft behind me.

Then at the Foster emblem painted near the door.

His face slowly changed.

—Foster Aviation?

Julian smiled.

—Now you’re paying attention.

Adrian looked from him to me.

—Who exactly are you?

I met his eyes.

—The same woman you married three years ago.

—That’s not an answer.

—It’s the only one you deserve.

His phone rang before he could respond.

He ignored it.

Then it rang again.

And again.

Finally he answered.

His assistant was speaking so loudly that even I could hear pieces of the conversation.

“Mr. Lawson…”

“…Foster Holdings…”

“…terminated negotiations…”

“…banks are asking questions…”

Adrian’s face drained of color.

He looked at Julian.

—What did you do?

Julian’s expression remained calm.

—Nothing yet.

That “yet” frightened him.

But then Vanessa’s car arrived.

She jumped out and ran toward Adrian.

—Adrian! My father says the Foster family canceled our pharmaceutical contract. You have to fix this!

She grabbed his arm.

And suddenly everything became beautifully clear.

Even now, she wasn’t worried about Adrian.

She was worried about herself.

I turned toward the aircraft.

—Claire, wait!

Adrian pushed Vanessa’s hand away and followed me.

—I didn’t know who your family was.

I stopped on the first step.

—That’s exactly why I’m leaving.

He frowned.

—What?

—If knowing my surname changes how you treat me, then you never deserved me when you thought I had nothing.

He froze.

I continued climbing.

Then Julian’s phone rang.

He listened for several seconds.

His expression changed.

—Claire.

Something in his voice made me turn.

—What?

He looked directly at Adrian.

—Security recovered the staircase footage.

Vanessa went completely still.

Adrian frowned.

—What footage?

Julian’s eyes shifted toward her.

—The recording from the hallway camera.

Vanessa’s face turned white.

—There isn’t a camera there.

Nobody spoke.

Julian slowly smiled.

—Interesting.

Vanessa realized her mistake too late.

I stared at her.

—How did you know where the cameras were?

She stepped backward.

—I… I guessed.

Julian unlocked his phone.

—Then perhaps you’d like to guess why the footage shows you doing something fifteen minutes before Claire fell.

Adrian turned toward Vanessa.

—What did you do?

Her lips began trembling.

Julian looked at me.

—Claire, she wasn’t just waiting for you at the stairs.

He held up the phone.

—She was setting the whole thing up before you even arrived.

And when Adrian saw the first frame of the security video, his face changed completely.
